Service Version number Vs Installer Version number

We install Simplehelp Offline installer on the windows machines using an Software deployment tool… Silent install and other command line params.
In our recent installs, its showing up as 5.5.2 in programs and features. Most recently, we updated to 5.5.3 on the server and when you update the client via the server, the service version increments to 5.5.3 as seen in the Technician console, but the Application version remains the same in programs and features.
There are occasions when we need to update a client outside of the reach of the server so in the past we have upgraded via the same method as initial deployment. The best method we have found that always works is to run the offline installer with the /uninstall and then rerun the installer with the normal command line. This of course, creates a duplicate entry in the technician console but the service version and the application version now tally. So I gues what Im asking is why , when upgrading the service from the server, does it not increment the version number in the programs and features to the same as the service version. Is, once the application is installed, the exe is redundant and has no other function (other than to assist in manual uninstalls) and everything hinges around the service alone?

I don’t have a good answer. It may be an oversight by the developer.
